CID grills 5 transport enforcement officials

GUWAHATI, March 16 - The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) today grilled the five Enforcement officials, who were earlier denied bails, in connection with the illegal coal syndicate.

The summoned officials include Enforcement Inspector Chitra Kumar Nath and Assistant Enforcement Inspectors Tapuram Bora, Anurag Sandilya and Bedanta Gogoi. Madhab Neog, an enforcement checker, was also questioned.

Mrigen Sarma, another enforcement checker who was also issued summon, did not turn up before the investigators.

The Gauhati High Court had recently denied anticipatory bail to all the six officials.

The officials were quizzed for more than five hours at the CID headquarters by a team led by Investigating Officer and Additional Superintendent of Police Nirmal Baishya.

�We have recorded their statements which will now be corroborated with those of DTO Prasenjit Ghosh. If necessary, they will be summoned again. The relevant documents will also be thoroughly examined,� sources in the CID said.

District Transport Officer (Registration) of Kamrup (Metro) Prasenjit Ghosh was also questioned in connection with the case. Ghosh was later transferred from his post of DTO, Kamrup (Metro).
