Chopper crash-lands in Nagaland

KOHIMA, Nov 24 - A four-member national disaster management team today had a narrow escape when their Pawan Hans helicopter crash-landed at Meluri Helipad in Phek district of Nagaland.

An official in Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority said that the disaster management team, led by Joint Secretary of Union Ministry of Home Affairs (Disaster Management Wing), had taken off from Kohima Helipad at around 7 am.

However, on reaching Meluri, about 163 kms from Kohima, the chopper crash-landed due to some technical problem, the official said.

All the four passengers and the pilot sustained minor injuries, the official said. Two of the team members were from the National Disaster Management Wing and two others from State Disaster Management Authority.

The chopper was partially damaged.

All the injured have been taken to Naga Hospital in Kohima by a rescue team of the IAF in Imphal.

The Central officials are in the State to conduct an assessment of a disaster under Meluri sub-division. � PTI
