JORABAT, Sept 3 - Anyone can innovate if he or she can change �impossible� to �i m possible�. This was how eminent innovator of the State Uddhab Bharali motivated the students of the Regional Institute of Science and Technology (RIST) at 9th Mile, where he had gone to attend the freshmen social function recently.
Bharali, who has won innumerable international, national and regional awards for his innovations, spoke on various topics and encouraged RIST�s newly admitted students to take innovation seriously. He explained the necessity of innovation in the present-day world.
Bharali displayed some of his innovations, which were most simple, yet important and useful in day-to-day life. He showed a machine which could peel pomegranate, another that could sow seeds in the soil maintaining equal distance, a multi-purpose one that could peel onion, garlic and potato, and so on.
The renowned innovator said today�s engineers must take a multi-disciplinary approach instead of confining to their own streams only.
He also rued that politicians and crimes got more prominence in the media than other issues, including newer innovations.
Later, talking to The Assam Tribune, Bharali said that lack of innovations and innovators in the State was mostly due to the curriculum followed by educational institutions, which was not appropriate to encourage innovations and students cannot be blamed for it .
When asked whether innovation was an inborn talent or a skill which could be learned, he said, �Necessity is the mother of innovation and can be acquired both by birth and by learning.�
