CEC in State to review poll preparations

GUWAHATI, March 21 - A team of the Election Commission of India (ECI), headed by Chief Election Commissioner Dr Nasim Zaidi, today arrived in the State for a two-day visit to assess the situation on the ground and the preparations for the State Assembly polls.

The ECI team had discussions with members of political parties this evening. It earlier had talks with senior officials. The ECI team will have detailed discussion with senior government officials on security arrangements tomorrow morning.

Meanwhile, the State unit of the BJP has demanded that as the ECI has decided to use voter verified paper audit trail in 10 constituencies, the same should be used in three constituencies � Majuli, Titabor and Samaguri.

The BJP�s chief ministerial candidate Sarbananda Sonowal is contesting from Majuli constituency, while Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is contesting from Titabor. Congress heavyweight Rakibul Hussain is contesting from Samaguri constituency.

The BJP also demanded night patrolling in the border and tea garden areas.
