SHILLONG, Jan 28 The Civil Society Womens Organisation (CSWO) today demanded a CBI inquiry into the mysterious death of Sub-Inspector PJ Marbaniang.

In a memorandum to Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing said that several questions have arisen about Marbanaings death.

It has been reported that the police official was frequently transferred from one district to the other after he had detained coal-laden trucks plying illegally.

We highly suspect that he (Marbaniang) was murdered and such pressure and killing would put to threat many honest officers who are willing to uphold the law of the land, she said in the memorandum. The police official was found dead in his official quarter in Patharkhmah on Saturday, less than 24 hours after he had detained 32 coal-laden trucks plying illegally. The police have claimed that it was a case of suicide.
