JORABAT, Sept 12 - Irate people today thrashed a car lifter here who was nabbed even as his accomplice managed to escape.
A Maruti Alto car (ML 10A 8027) was stolen from the NH-6 at 13th Mile when the owner parked it near a restaurant. As he noticed his car being driven away by two unidentified persons towards Guwahati, he called up his friends at Hastinapur to stop the car. But the car lifter who was driving the vehicle fled the scene.
The second car lifter was handed over to Jorabat Police by the public who beat him up. The police said that the person was in an inebriated condition.
