Cancer patients celebrate Bihu

GUWAHATI, Jan 13 � With Magh Bihu round the corner, Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute authorities today said they celebrated Bhogali Bihu in the institute premises by erecting bhelaghar and meji to make the inmates enjoy the festivity away from home and relatives.

All the employees and patients of Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute today lit the traditional meji and prayed for speedy recovery of the patients, sources said.

Matri Mandir, an NGO dedicated for support to the orphans, distributed ladu-pithas to all the patients and employees of the institute.

Egg-fight (koni jujj) was organized where patients and employees participated. The patients also danced with the nurses, doctors and other employees of the institute.

It stated that recreational programmes like music and sight-seeing can have profound impact on the immunity of the patients to fight all kinds of diseases.

Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute has been regularly organising similar programmes hoping that it will have profound impact on the quality of life of the patients with improved outcome.

Dharmeswar Deka, a 50 year old patient from Sarthebari expressed gratitude to the management of the Institute for organizing such a function for patients.

Md Mofij Uddin from Lakhimpur stated that after attending the Bihu function he felt that his disease is completely cured.

Rekha Moni Das, an attendant of patient Kalpana Das from Morigaon, stated that she liked the pre-Bihu celebration and felt very happy for getting an opportunity to perform Bihu dance.

Many patients, doctors nurses involved in patients' care expressed similar views.
