RAHA, June 14 - The influential Matribhumi Surakshya Parishad, Asom on Monday claimed that three Satras, namely Batadrava , Patekibari and Madhav Thaan were facing encroachment by illegal migrants in Nagaon and Morigaon districts.
Addressing the media at the PWD IB here on Monday, Rajnarayan Bora and Bhaskarjyoti Das, convenors of the organisation lamented that despite several memoranda and representations, successive governments at the Centre and the State have not yet taken any steps to free the Satras from the clutches of illegal Bangladeshi migrants.
For decades now, illegal migration from Bangladesh has adversely affected the culture, economy and social strata of our society. Illegal migration has now affected the Satras too. According to Government figures, around 6,576 bighas of Satra land have been encroached upon by the illegal migrants, they said.
The Parishad accused the State Government of step-motherly attitude towards the people of Nagaon district and demands to solve the issues concern Nagaon.
The Parishad also urged the State Government to implement the Assam Accord in letter and spirit and to set up an AIIMS hospital at Raha, besides demanding a stoppage for the Rajdhani Express train at Chaparmukh.
