Call to end woes of paper mill employees

GUWAHATI, Jan 29 - The Joint Action Committee of Recognised Unions (JACRU) of Nagaon and Cachar paper mills on Monday urged Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi to raise the issue of the two mills before the Central government in order to bring the woes of the employees to an end.

The JACRUs response came after the Governor in his Republic Day speech stated that the State government is sensitive to the issue of the employees of the two paper mills.

In a statement, JACRU added that such assurances are not new. From the Chief Minister to the Prime Minister and from the State Industry Minister to the Union Industry Minister, all have given the same assurances time and again with no result, it said.

Repetition of illusory assurances on Republic Day which never materialise is not only pouring salt on wounds but is also neglect of the basic constitutional rights of the citizens of Assam who have lost their rights to life and dignity, the statement added.
