GOLAGHAT, July 30 The paddy fields of Dhansiri subdivision have been parched in recent days due to non-availability of sufficient rainfall.

Dhansiri subdivision, which is otherwise wellknown as the granary of Golaghat district where 90% people are farmers, has been adversely affected by a drought like situation, thus creating panic among the farmers of the subdivision.

Due to absence of rainwater the farmers of Tengani, Gelabeel, Chungajan, Sarupathar and Uriumghat have been a concerned lot and running from pillar to post in order to mobilise official patronage.

The Irrigation Development has been doing nothing for supplying water to the cultivated lands of the farmers, it was alleged. The people of Dhansiri subdivision have therefore demanded supply of water to the farmers immediately. The farmers have also demanded declaration of Dhansiri as a drought-hit subdivision and immediate adoption of viable measures for the welfare of the drought-hit farmers.
