SILCHAR, Aug 11 - Protesting against the anti-worker and anti-people policies and pro-corporate steps taken by the present NDA Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Cachar district leaders of the BMS, INTUC, CITU, AITUC, AIUTUC, AICCTU, TUCC, TUCC (Cachar) and EWTCC along with the Central Trade Union has called a 12-hour strike across the district along with the rest of the country on September 2.
The trade union leaders have alleged that in the past one year since the government assumed power, it has been busy amending all labour laws in the interest of the corporate class. Further, citing the instance of the foreign direct investment (FDI) in the public sector, the trade union members have criticised the government, saying that it is hell bent on snatching away the legitimate rights of the worker class.
Supriyo Bhattacharjee, district general secretary of the CITU, said that the Centre has not yet taken any steps to implement the recommendations of the 43rd, 44th and 45th Indian Labour Conference on the formulation of minimum wage and benefits at par with regular workers to those employed in the Central Government schemes, including Anganwadi, Midday Meal, and ASHA, among others. Instead, the government has reduced budget allocation for Centrally-sponsored schemes like MGNREGS which are meant for welfare of the common people.
�We stand united on 13-point demand charter against the attitude of the government which is crushing the rights of the common people,� Bhattacharjee said, informing that in order to make the nationwide strike a success, a series of activities will be taken up by the district labour unions, including a joint convention on August 23 followed by district-level awareness programmes from August 25 to 31. Also, a rally will be taken out on September 1 to intensity the move against the government.
