Call for economic blockade withdrawn

IMPHAL, Oct 8 - The tribal student bodies have withdrawn their plan to impose an economic blockade along the National Highways following an understanding reached with Government of Manipur this afternoon.

Meanwhile, a committee has been formed by the State Government to �look into all pending demands� of the All Tribal Students Union, Manipur (ATSUM), Kuki Students Organisation-General Headquarters (KSO-GHQ) and All Naga Students� Association, Manipur (ANSAM). A charter of demands on various issues was submitted to the State Government by the tribal student bodies last year.

MH Khan, Additional Chief Secretary will head the five-member committee that will look into the demands of the hill based student bodies. The committee will examine the feasibility of implementation of charter of demands raised by the student bodies and submit a report within one month�s time.
