AIZAWL, Jan 22 - The Mizoram Government has proposed to introduce a cable car service here to mitigate transportation problems.

The NITI Aayog has in principle approved of the proposal, an official source said. The source added that Chief Minister Zoramthanga met NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Dr Rajiv Kumar and discussed the project. Dr Kumar told Zoramthanga that a ground survey has found Aizawl to be suitable for construction of an aerial cable car service and necessary funds would be sanctioned soon.

According to the proposal, Aizawl will have two ropeways one from Thuampui to Solomons Temple (east-west corridor) and another from Durtlang to Kulikawn (north-south corridor).

The NITI Aayog Vice Chairman informed Zoramthanga that he has convened a meeting of three ministries concerned to discuss the project. Stating that the feasibility study has been completed, Dr Kumar stated that a team of experts would visit Aizawl next week to prepare the final report.
