Brown sugar seized, 2 held

MANGALDAI, Dec 31 - On the eve of the New Year and in the wee hours today, two persons along with a big consignment of brown sugar were apprehended by Darrang Police.

A police team of Mangaldai Sadar Police Station led by its Officer-in-Charge Inspector Niranjan Baruah assisted by Sub-Inspector Dantejit Daimary, acting on a tip-off, nabbed two persons with a big consignment of brown sugar carried in several dozen tiny plastic containers and also in separate polythene packets.

The accused persons have been identified as Saddam Hussain and Hanif Ali, both residents of Gusbari village under Mangaldai Police Station. During preliminary interrogation by police, the duo confessed that the consignment was carried from Khanapara to be sold in Mangaldai area.

In the meantime, investigation into the case, i.e., No. 1027/2019 u/s 22(C) under the NDPS Act, was on.
