GUWAHATI, June 2 � Ripunjoy Kalita of Gilbert English Medium School, Barpeta and Khandakar Shoaib of Kamandanga High Madrassa, Dhubri topped the High School Leaving Certificate Examination, 2015 and the Assam High Madrassa Examination, 2015 respectively, the results of which were announced this morning.
Ripunjoy scored 587 marks out of 600, while Khandakar managed 545 marks to top the respective merit lists.
The overall pass percentage in this year�s HSLC Examination conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam, improved to 62.20 per cent from last year�s 61.42 per cent. A total of 3,86,783 candidates had appeared in the HSLC Examination this year, of whom 2,40,563 emerged successful.
The overall pass percentage of the AHM Examination, 2015 was 69.60 per cent where a total of 10,228 candidates had appeared, of whom 7,119 emerged successful.
Male candidates performed better in both the HSLC and AHM examinations compared to female candidates this year. In the HSLC Examination the pass percentage of male candidates stood at 66.54 compared to 58.10 per cent for female candidates. In the AHM Examination too, the male candidates secured an overall pass percentage of 73.23 compared to 66.74 for the female candidates.
In the HSLC Examination, the top ten positions were shared by 36 candidates, which included six from Barpeta district and five from Kamrup (Metro). In Kamrup (Metro), three rank holders (6th, 7th and 10th) were from Sudershan Public School, the highest by any single school in the entire merit list. The only other two schools that featured in the top ten merit list from Kamrup (Metro) were St Stephen�s School (7th) and St Mary�s School (8th) with one rank holder each.
While 51,046 of the successful candidates secured first division, the number of second division holders stood at 95,111. The number of third division holders stood at 94,406.
As in the recently announced Higher Secondary Examination results, Dhemaji emerged as the district with the highest pass percentage of 78.12, followed by Kamrup (Metro) 77.21 and Nalbari 75.09.
The worst performing districts were Chirang (29.85 pc), Goalpara (44.95 pc), Karimganj (46.83 pc), Karbi Anglong (47.21 pc) and Hailakandi (48.86 pc).
Moreover, as many as 4,976 HSLC candidates secured distinction marks (510 and above), while the number of star mark holders was 11,405 (450-509).
