Bought leaf factories not to buy green leaves

DIBRUGARH, Nov 11 The Assam Bought Leaf Tea Manufacturers Association (ABLTMA) and the All India Manufacturers Organisation (AIMO) (Tea Division) have unanimously resolved not to buy green tea leaves till their reservations over issues of tea marketing control order, price sharing formula and quality were settled.

The ABLTMA and AIMO decision comes in the wake of the Tea Board of India deciding to launch a crackdown on tea factories violating the stipulated minimum benchmark price while purchasing green tea leaves from small tea growers.

In a letter to the Executive Director, Tea Board of India, North East Regional Office, Jorhat, the two organisations expressed resentment that despite submitting memoranda to the authorities concerned on the issues faced by bought leaf tea factories with regard to the implementation of the circulars issued by the Tea Board of India, the authorities had failed to address them.

Both the ABLTMA and AIMO (Tea Division) have asked the authorities concerned to create a congenial atmosphere by redressing their grievances. They have decided not to purchase green tea leaves till the issues are addressed.
