Body of doctor recovered from pond

MANGALDAI, Jan 18 - Sensation prevails here following the recovery of the body of Dr Alakananda Goswami (59), Sub Divisional Medical and Health Officer (SDM & HO) of Mangaldai and a well-known paediatrician from a private pond near his residence at Ward no 5 on Monday at around 1-30 pm.

Police suspect it to be a case of suicide. The incident reportedly came to light when locals heard the sound of someone falling into the pond within the campus of one late Binoy Ghosh and also found a pair of slippers on its bank. The matter was immediately reported to police who along with the jawans of SDRF stormed into action and later recovered the body.

According to sources, Dr Goswami was away from his Mangaldai residence for more than 20 days after he fell ill and was under treatment for a few days in Guwahati. On Monday, he arrived at Mangaldai from Tezpur along with his spouse and younger daughter for extending his official leave.
