IMPHAL, Dec 4 - The indefinite economic blockade called by civil society organisations (CSO) of Sadar Hills in the busy Imphal-Mao sector of Trans Asian Highway 1 in protest against the dilapidated condition of the road has severely affected movement of goods trucks.

A large number of goods laden trucks were reportedly stranded along two supply routes Imphal-Mao and Imphal-Jiribam, reports said. Another report from Jiribaam town said that most of the stranded trucks have left Imphal with security escorts.

The CSOs of Sadar Hills in Manipurs Senapati district comprising Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills, Kuki Students Organisation, Thadou Students Association, Kuki Women Union and others have been demanding immediate implementation of the highway construction work.

CSOs Sadar Hills spokesperson Lamcha Chongloi said they have decided to enforce the blockade till their demands are met. We have also decided to impose complete total bandh in Sadar Hills if the work is not executed within one week.

Meanwhile, All Manipur Road Transport Divers and Motor Workers Union will begin an indefinite steering down strike from tomorrow on Imphal-Jiribam road in protest against the burning down of two loaded trucks at Jiribam on Wednesday when the blockade began.
