BJP wrests power in Sonari civic body

SONARI, July 8 - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has wrested power in the Sonari municipality. Ward Commissioners of No. 1 Ward, Pranita Panging, and of No. 8 Ward, Girin Gogoi, were selected today as the chairman and the vice chairman respectively.

Earlier, Tapan Kumar Gogoi, local MLA, took oath as the ex-officio member of the municipality. Abhijit Baruah, Deputy Commissioner in-charge of Charideo district, administered the oath of office to Gogoi. Gogoi, along with Jugen Mohan, MLA, Mahmora, and Baruah, addressed the gathering. Gurneil Singh, Executive Officer of the municipality, chaired the meeting. The names of the newly-elected chairman and vice chairman were announced by Kamakhya Tasa, Jorhat MP, after a prolonged discussion with the BJP ward commissioners.
