BJP slams suspension of Imphal council

NEW DELHI, Sept 2 � The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has slammed the Manipur Government for suspending the Imphal Municipal Council on the basis of an old show cause notice, describing it as an undemocratic act that might lead to misuse of Jawarharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) funds.

In a letter to the Prime Minister by Guwahati Lok Sabha MP Bijoya Chakravarty and released by the BJP, Chakravarty said Imphal is a JNNURM city and recently Government of India sanctioned Rs 1,872 crore under City Development Plan. The party has called for stopping of the implementation of the JNNURM in Imphal, till the council is revived.

The party has sought the Prime Minister�s intervention and neutralise the action of the Manipur Government.
