SILCHAR, Oct 2 - Reacting against the move by the Asom Gana Parishad leadership in meeting Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar with a plea to oppose the much- debated Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016, State BJP spokesperson Dr Rajdeep Roy slammed the ally saying that �the party had failed to implement the Assam Accord during its tenure and now it is attempting to derail the crucial issue of Citizenship (Amendment) Bill through the backdoor by taking help from the JD(U).�
He cited some statistical references saying that from 1985 to 2005 there were 12,846 foreigners detected in the State and 1,587 among such detected persons were pushed back through the border, whereas out of 14,789 Bangladeshi nationals detected during 2005-2008, only one individual was pushed back.
Roy expressed concern that the AGP leadership must realise the nefarious design of Pakistan and the terrorist outfits which are closely observing developments in the State and encouraging the separatist activities from across the border.
Further, taking a potshot on the AGP leaders, the BJP spokesperson claimed that if the ally wishes to break alliance, it is welcome to do so and made it clear that the BJP knows how to run the Government on its own.
However, he was quick to express his concern that placing the Bill in Parliament and passing it is an �acid test� for the party to retain its traditional vote bank. He informed that Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Finance Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma had a threadbare discussion with the BJP national president Amit Shah and other leaders who have reiterated their promise to drive home the Bill in the next session.
