BISWANATH CHARIALI, Jan 1 � The newly declared Biswanath Police District was formally inaugurated by State Planning and Development Minister Tanka Bahadur Rai at function held at the premises of Biswanath Chariali Police Station today.
Speaking on the occasion, Rai expressed the hope that the new police district would be able to fulfill the aspirations of people in the new year.
Sonitpur DC, Lalit Gogoi elaborated about the new district and sought public cooperation in maintaining law and order in the areas covered by the police district.
Taking part in the inaugural function, DIG (NER) Subhra Jyoti Hazarika commented that the new police district would be able to provide security to the life and property of the people in the trouble-torn areas of Biswanath and Gohpur sub-divisions.
Sonitpur SP, Sanjukta Parashar handed over the charge of the new police district to the newly appointed SP, Biswanath Police District, Manavendra Rai and declared that areas from Jamuguruhat PS to Gohpur PS would come under the new district�s jurisdiction covering around 6 lakhs of population.
The newly appointed SP sought public cooperation and helps to solve the problems of the people in the district. Social workers Jiten Bhagawati, Apurva Kr Das, among others, spoke a few words in the programme.
