Biswanath College gets citation as member of UN Academic Impact

BISWANATH CHARIALI, Feb 20 - As Biswanath College, a premier higher educational institute of northern Assam steps into its diamond jubilee year, the news of its getting recognition as member of United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) has created an atmosphere of jubilation among the stakeholders.

The news was stated before media persons in a meet convened by Dr Chinta Mani Sharma, Principal of the college in the presence of Kukil Hazarika, the president of the governing body of the college.

The college will henceforth join hands with UNAI to value its commitment towards ten principles viz., human rights, educational opportunity for all, sustainability, capacity building in higher education, global citizenship, peace and conflict resolution, addressing poverty, higher education opportunity for every individual and the unlearning of intolerance.

It is worth mentioning here that the Institutional Innovation Council of Biswanath College has also received recognition as member of Innovation Cell, Ministry of Human Resource and Development, Government of India, for the academic year 2019-20.

The college has been trying to impart quality education since its inception.

eBird workshop: Department of Environment and Forest, Biswanath Chariali in collaboration with the Department of Zoology, Biswanath College organized day-long short eBird workshop cum Great Backyard Bird Count Programme at Ripunjoy Knowledge Hub, Biswanath College recently in contribution to the annual Great Backyard Bird Count, conducted by the global conservation agencies from February 14 to 17.

Dr Chinta Mani Sharma, Principal of Biswanath College, welcomed all the attendees of the event which included resource persons, students and faculty members of the college as well as the organizers.

Resource persons Biswajit Chakdar, Scientist of Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS), Mumbai, Harif Parengal, Research Scholar in Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON), Tamil Nadu and Dr Parimal Chandra Ray, Project Coordinator of Turtle Survival Alliance (TSA), India, Biswanath Ghat, graced the workshop with their presence and talks on significance of cultivating knowledge on birds and global level wildlife conservation activities.

The workshop ended with training and demonstration of eBird Application which can be used by wildlife enthusiasts for submitting their bird sightings.

The field session i.e., Backyard Bird Count was conducted within the college premises on February 15. Dr Chinta Mani Sharma also appreciated the continuous effort of the Department of Zoology, Biswanath College for coming forth with such initiatives.
