GUWAHATI, Sept 19 Biswakarma Puja, the occasion on which obeisance is paid to Lord Biswakarma, the God of Engineering, was celebrated on Sunday in the State.

The city, too, joined the festivities in a befitting manner with a number of colourfully decorated and illuminated puja mandaps hosting the festivities. The puja is celebrated in business and industrial houses, both private and government.

Biswakarma Puja was also held in individual households with people washing their vehicles and offering prayers before the deity.

In keeping with its tradition, the Assam Tribune Group of Publications celebrated the occasion with a daylong programme which included a cultural evening. The Assam Tribune campus with its spectacular illumination attracted big crowds in the evening. The nagara naam programme, which lasted for seven-and-a-half hours since 6.30 pm, was appreciated by the audience.

Various media houses and the Guwahati Press Club, too, celebrated the puja. Journalists and artistes participated enthusiastically in a cultural function at the Press Club.
