GUWAHATI, Sept 20 - IndianOil AOD State Office has launched a post-Biswakarma Puja idol cleanliness drive in the city under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
Every year, Biswakarma Puja is celebrated with a lot of pomp and show to mark reverence to Lord Biswakarma but after the celebrations, the idols of Lord Biswakarma are mostly kept either under a tree or by the roadside. Thus hundreds of idols have been observed in the streets across the city.
As part of the ongoing national cleanliness campaign �Swachhta Hi Seva�, IndianOil AOD State Office on Friday launched a first-of-its-kind innovative cleanliness drive where old idols of Lord Biswakarma will be collected from various workshops and vehicle mechanic workshops across the city and disposed of safely. The drive was launched by Uttiya Bhattacharyya, chief general manager, IndianOil AOD State Office, from the IndianOil marketing headquarters of the North East at Noonmati.
On the occasion, Bhattacharyya said that in line with the vision of the Prime Minister�s Clean India campaign, it was a small step taken by IndianOil AOD State Office to help keep the city clean. �Many business establishments which celebrate Biswakarma Puja are small businessmen and hiring a vehicle for safe disposal of the idols becomes a huge expense. A vehicle from Indian Oil will go around the city to collect idols kept after the puja for safe disposal. This initiative will help reduce environmental pollution and also ensure cleanliness of the city and help promote a clean India,� Bhattacharyya said.
