Bharat Lok Parv from today

GUWAHATI, Feb 15 � The Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC) Kolkata, an autonomous organisation under the Union Ministry of Culture, is organising Bharat Lok Parv, a national festival, from February 16 to February 28 in the north eastern region.

The festival will be inaugurated at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalashetra here on February 16, said a press statement. West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi and Union Minster for Tribal Affairs Jual Oram will be present during the inauguration of the festival.

The festival will present folk music, dance, theatre, puppetry, crafts and paintings of India and will be followed by an exhibition of folk arts workshop, panel discussions and food fairs.

Over 40 national folk artistes will be honoured on the occasion. Meanwhile, a Purvottar Yatra is being organised on the occasion by the EZCC. The yatra will cover various places between February 17 and February 28.

Among the places to be covered by the yatra are Kohima, Imphal, Aizawl, Shillong, Silchar, Khowai, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Sheergaon, Tawang, Goalpara, Tura, Namchi, Jorthang, Timitarku, Singtam, Mangan, Dzangu and Pandom.

The main thrust of the festival is to present the rich diversity and uniqueness of Indian culture and to promote the cultural inter-linkages amongst the states to strengthen national integration.

It is also intended to ensure that the artists get a platform not only to explore their forms of art, but also to explore their talents beyond their respective geographical boundaries.
