Betkuchi HS retain Dewkon Trophy

GUWAHATI, July 22 � Defending champions Betkuchi High School of Kamrup Metro retained the Dewkon Trophy emerging champions in the U-17 inter district school football championship.

In the title clash at the Nehru Stadium here today, Betkuchi boys edged past Barhampur SSS HS of Nagaon 2-1. On a slippery ground, Shyam Narzary put the winning team ahead in the 16th minute while Babu Rongpi restored parity in the 24th minute. In the 43rd minute skipper Nayanjyoti Koli fired the match inning goal.

In the closing function Sports Minister Ajit Singh handed over the trophy to the champions. Director of Sports in charge Anjan Sarma, Deputy Directors Jatin Borchetia, Pradip Hazarika, Asst Director Uday Kamal Chetia were also present in the closing function.

Tridev Boro of Betkuchi was adjudged the best player of the final.

Now the Betkuchi boys will represent Assam in the All India Subroto Cup Football Tournament to be held in New Delhi in September.
