Bengali schools observe Lachit Divas

GUWAHATI, Nov 24 - Two Bengali schools � Bengali Higher Secondary School and Bengali High School � today jointly observed Lachit Divas with a programme held at Paltan Bazar, a press release stated.

Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said that in today�s socio-political scenario in the State, the observance of Lachit Divas by the Bengali schools will send a message of the bond of unity and fraternity among different communities living in Assam.

During the event, Ajay Dutta gave a brief history of the Battle of Saraighat, while Biswajit Khound appealed to the students to follow the ideals of patriotism of Bir Lachit, the great hero of Assam. Yuvaraj Sharma said that the State government should take steps to spread the message of Sankaradeva and Lachit across the nation.

The meeting was attended by many dignitaries, including Saibal Sengupta, Mithun Deb Roy, Sangeeta Devi, Shankar Chakraborty, Debasish Sengupta and Rajib Das.
