GUWAHATI, Dec 23 - The Kamrup Metro district administration today directed all the bars and restaurants in the city to strictly adhere to excise norms and other relevant rules and said that in case of any lapses on the part of such establishments, action, including cancellation of trade licence, would be initiated.
This was stated during a meeting held by the district administration with owners and representatives of bars and restaurants of greater Guwahati area here, said an official statement.
The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Dr M Angamuthu. It was also attended by City Police Commissioner Mukesh Agarwal.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Angamuthu said that despite the directives issued during the meeting held with representatives of bars and restaurants on November 4, many such establishments have been found to be not following the norms.
He said that such attitude is not acceptable and owners of bars and restaurants also must shoulder their responsibilities.
He said all bars and restaurants in the city must take steps to ensure adequate security environment, including installation of CCTVs, besides maintaining proper food safety, hygiene and toilet facilities. These steps will have to be complied with within 15 days, he added.
A joint inspection team of the district administration and police will be formed for the purpose of checking adherence to the directives and verifying trade licence and other relevant documents.
Dr Angamuthu said such establishments will have to take prior separate permission from both the district administration and the police for holding special events or parties during Christmas, New Year and Bihu and all such programmes will have to be over by 12.30 am.
Teams of special squads will be formed for conducting surprise inspection of bars and restaurants in the run-up to and during the festive period.
Speaking on the occasion, Police Commissioner Agarwal said many allegations have been received regarding violation of rules by bars and restaurants. He warned that the owners and managements of such errant bars and restaurants will be responsible for such incidents.
He stressed that alcohol should not be served to persons below the age of 21 years in such establishments as per the law.
Agarwal said that the managements of such establishments must immediately contact the police in case of any untoward incident.
