DHUBRI, July 4 - An undertrial Bangladeshi prisoner, who was amongst the 26 Bangladeshi nationals was apprehended by Dhubri police for violation of various norms during the lockdown period, died on Wednesday. Fifty-seven-year-old Bokul Mia, a resident of Beparipara, Chilmari Romona, PS Chilmari, district: Kurigram Bangladesh, breathed his last at Dhubri Civil Hospital.
He along with 25 other inmates from Bangladesh was in Dhubri Jail, in connection with Chapar PS case no. 174/2020 registered Under Section 14 (B) of The Foreigners Amendment Act 2004 read with section 12 (1-A) (3) The Passport Act 1967.
Mia was shifted to Dhubri Civil Hospital Dhubri on Tuesday after being referred by the medical office of the jail hospital for better medical investigation and treatment, as he had vomited a few times and was a patient of high blood pressure.
The district administration said that the swab of the deceased will be taken for test and talks with Bangladesh are on, for handing over the body to his family. He was shifted to Dhubri Jail on May 6.
Police informed that these 26 Bangladeshi nationals, including the deceased working as fishermen in Jorhat and Sivasagar districts, borrowed vehicles from Jorhat�s Kokilamukh Brahmaputra Ghat, in order to visit their country during the lockdown period and on May 3, they were stopped at Bahalpur area under Chapar PS of Dhubri district. In this regard, it was informed that the team led by the Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh, Dr Shah Mohammad Tanvir Mansur also visited Dhubri on June 12.
