HAILAKANDI, Feb 21 - The Hailakandi district administration has prohibited operation of unauthorised Bangla Bhattas in the district with immediate effect.

In an order passed by District Magistrate, Krishna Govinda Bhuyan, the administration has imposed a ban on unauthorised and illegal Bangla Bhattas operating in the district in large numbers.

As the Bangla Bhattas have been damaging the agricultural lands and causing environmental pollution and are operating in flagrant violation of the rules and regulations of Revenue and Disaster Management Department and Assam Pollution Control Board, they are prohibited with immediate effect, the order stated.

The order prohibiting operation of the Bangla Bhattas has been enforced to prevent the loss of fertility of agricultural fields and check environmental degradation, said Bhuyan.

With the coming into force of the order, no person can manufacture, stock, distribute or sell bricks of the Bangla Bhattas. Violation of the order will entail legal action as per provisions of law.
