Bandh hits normal life in Dhubri

DHUBRI, Jan 8 - Life in Dhubri district came to a halt in support of the statewide bandh called by the All Assam Students� Union (AASU) and other organisations against the controversial citizenship Bill.

As per reports, almost no public transport plied on the highways and on the main roads of the towns in the district. Most of the shops in the market places and private organisations also remained closed throughout the district.

Police informed that some picketers tried to create disturbances in a few places and prevented vehicular movement. At least 120 picketers all over the district were detained. Out of these 112 picketers were detained in Bilasipara, three in Dhubri, four in Gauripur and a few more from different areas of the district.
