Ban on plastic bags

TURA, Feb 21 � Acting tough against the use of plastics that pollute the environment, the Williamnagar Municipal Board has banned stocking, selling and use of plastic carry bags of less than 40 microns thickness.

The new rule is also set to prohibit the use of thermocol glasses and cups under Section 5 of the Environment (Prohibition) Act, 1986. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of WMB has issued a stern warning that violators will be penalised by imposing a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh.
