Attempt by Nagas to construct church in Titabar sub-divn foiled

JORHAT, March 17 - An attempt to reportedly construct a Church with bamboo in Assam land today at Teteliguri under Bekajan police outpost area under Titabar civil sub-division within Jorhat district along the Assam-Nagaland border by Naga people was thwarted by Assam police battalion personnel.

A police source said that policemen arrived at the spot after local people informed the administration about Naga people bringing in bamboo and other construction material and starting work to build a church.

Later, senior police officials along with civil sub-divisional administration officials visited the site and took stock of the situation.

The source said that officials of Bhandari sub-division of Wokha district of Nagaland have been informed about the incident by Titabar sub-divisional administration and a meeting between both sides is likely to be held on Monday at a place along the inter-State border to discuss maintaining peace along the border.
