GUWAHATI, June 14 Assimilation is more important than definition, said Asam Sahitya Sabha president Dr Dhrubajyoti Bora while addressing the 12th annual meeting of the Al-Ameen Janakalyan Samaj at Bishnu Nirmala Bhawan here today.

Bora said Assam belongs to those whose first language is Assamese as also to those whose second or third language may be Assamese. Citing the example of Great Britain, he stated that the mother tongue of a sizeable population there is either Scottish or Irish, while their second language is English, but all of them are British.

In an elaborate and to-the-point analysis of the formation of the greater Assamese race, Bora clarified, Asam Sahitya Sabha believes in the growth of Assamese language and community irrespective of religion. The Sabha also opposes all forms of communalism and takes a secular stand for the growth and development of the Assamese society.
