GUWAHATI, Jan 9 - The Assamese translation of the internationally-acclaimed book The Soul of the Rhino by Hemanta R Mishra and Jim Otawe Jr was released recently at a solemn function held at the office of Bonphul Prakashan, Hatigaon Chariali.
It may be mentioned that Mishra and Otawe Jr have been involved with the process of conservation of the one-horn rhino and tiger for more than two decades and their dedicated efforts have created a sort of wildlife conservation movement in Nepal.
The Soul of the Rhino was published by American publishing house The Rowman & Littlefield Publishing House and its Assamese translation, being published by Bonphul Prakashan, has been done by Sahitya Akademi Translation Award-winning writer Bipul Deuri.
The book, written in the backdrop of the Chitwan National Park in Nepal, has covered many important aspects related to conservation of wildlife in general and rhino in particular, such as, three-decade-long untiring efforts for rhino conservation in the said National Park, folklore and rituals about the rhino, poaching, the concept of rhino translocation, fall of monarchism and rise of democracy in Nepal, Maoists� uprising, role of various nature and wildlife organisations in the process of rhino conservation in Nepal, etc.
