GUWAHATI, Dec 17 - It was their sixth consecutive defeat for Assam in the Vijay Hazare Trophy as they went down to Services by six wickets at the RRC Stadium, Hyderabad today.
With this defeat former finalist Assam completed their campaign without any victory.
It was a facile victory for the Services team as chasing a modest target of 262, Services hit the winning run in 45.2 overs in the 50-overs encounter.
Amit Verma was the leading run getter for Assam with a 99-ball 78. Sib Sankar Roy (45 off 77 balls), KB Arun Karthick (29 off 34 balls), Syed Mohammed (22 off 21 balls) and Amit Sinha (21 off 12 balls) were the other Assam batsmen who had little contribution to the total.
Diwesh Gurdev Pathania virtually wrecked the Assam innings with a five wicket haul giving away 54 runs.
Chasing the target, Services batsmen did not face any trouble from the initial stage as the top four batsmen Soumik Chatterjee (73) Nakul Verma (30), Amit Pachhara (75 n.o) and Rajat Paliwal (52) were among runs for their side.
