Assam Rifles DG retires

SHILLONG, March 31 - Director General of Assam Rifles Lt Gen Shokin Chauhan today retired from service after a successful stint of 39 years in the Indian Armed Forces.

An alumnus of the prestigious National Defence College, he was commissioned into the 11 Gorkha Rifles in December 1979. A highly decorated officer, among other successful appointments in his career, he also had the unique distinction of handling media relations for the Army in its public information unit.

Lt Gen Chauhan took over as the 19th Director General of the Assam Rifles on December 12, 2016. His contribution towards bringing to light the role of the Assam Rifles in protecting Indian democracy through multiple exposure on various social media platforms has helped the rest of India to know about the impactful existence of the Force, an official statement here stated.
