Assam players shine in AITA meet

GUWAHATI, May 31 � Three Assam players won crowns in the AITA Championship Series which concluded at the All Assam Tennis Association�s complex at Chachal here today.

Jishnu Baruah won the first title defeating top seed Wangel Lama of Sikkim 3-6, 7-5, 7-5 in the boys U-12 group. But Assam girl Lenien Jamir went down to S Mubashira Anjum of Andhra Pradesh 1-6, 6-2, 2-6 in that category.

Bijoy Mohanty and Priyana Kalita gave Assam titles in the boys� and girls� U-16 group respectively. Bijoy defeated Vitsizolie Nagi of Nagaland 6-0, 6-4 while Priyona outplayed her State mate Murchana Saharia 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles Wangal Lama/Anurag Buragohain (Assam) won the boys� U-12 crown defeating Jishnu Baruah/Swapnil Deka. In the boys� U-16 doubles final Siddarth Choudhury/Siddarth Basnet duo bagged the title with a 3-5, 5-4(3), 7-5 victory against Bijoy Mohanty/Mingki Talom. Murchana Saharia/Abha M Baruah won the girls� U-16 crown prevailing over Priyona Kliata/Suranjeta Saikia 4-2, 5-4 (3) in the all Assam final.

The championship was organised by All Assam Tennis Asociation.
