JORHAT, Sept 3 - Security along the Assam-Nagaland border in Mariani constituency under Jorhat district has been tightened after the Naga militants demanded an extortion of Rs 80 lakh from a manager of a tea garden located near the inter-State border.

Police sources said that the note, reportedly demanding money from the garden manager, was handed over to the chowkidar few days back by two persons. The envelope containing the note reportedly had two bullets of a 9 mm pistol a tactic earlier used by the militants to create fear.

Source said that police were taking all necessary steps to prevent any untoward incident with increased patrolling and surveillance along the inter-State border.
