Assam girl wins national-level dance titles in Kolkata

KALAIGAON, Jan 19 - Nilakshi Devi, an eight-year old girl of Kalaigaon in Udalguri district won national-level classical and folk dance title in the 10th All India Indian Classical and Folk Dance Competition organised at Dwarakanath Manch, Jorasanko Thakurbari and Oriental Seminary School playground, Kolkata from December 24 to 30.

The event was organised by Bharat Sanskari Utsav in association with Kolkata Municipal Corporation and Ministry of Culture, Government of India.

Nilakshi Devi, daughter of Mahadeb Nath and Konmoni Devi of Kalaigaon won the first positions in classical (Sattriya) and folk (Bihu) dance categories while winning the second position in modern dance. Nilakshi has been learning Sattriya, folk and modern dances for the last four years under the guidance of her Guru Kushal Deka of Mangaldai.

A student of Kalaigaon Town LP School, Nilakshi has also secured first position in the last annual examination. She was also declared as the best student of the school. Nilakshi�s mother Konmoni Devi is a housewife and father is a police officer. Various institutions and organisations including Kalaigaon Nagarik Samiti, Udalguri District Journalists� Union, Sankari Kala Kristi Bikash Kendra, Kalaigaon etc., have congratulated Nilakshi for her achievements in the national-level competition and thanked her parents for supporting and guiding her all the way.
