GUWAHATI, Feb 13 - Assam top order put up a spirited show on the second day of the Elite Group C Ranji Trophy match against Tripura.
In reply to the visiting team�s first innings total of 497, Assam, at stumps were 162 for one. Rishav Das and skipper Gokul Sharma were at the crease with 88 and 39 respectively while opener Subham Mandal was the lone man out today for 33.
Tripura resumed their first innings at the overnight total of 387 for seven and added 110 more with the remaining three wickets. Experienced Manisankar Murasingh, who was unbeaten on 82 yesterday, completed his deserving century (118). The Tripura all-rounder faced 152 balls during which he hit 15 boundaries and a six. It was his fourth first class century. He also has over 200 first class wickets in his kitty as a medium pacer.
The Tripura tailenders Harmeet Singh and Rana Dutta also contributed 41 and 18 respectively which enabled their team to reach a hefty total.
Ranjit Mali completed his five-wicket haul claiming the wicket of Ajoy Sarkar. Riyan Parag was the other wicket taker today.
Assam openers Subham Mandal and Rishav Das made a bright start adding 72. However, Subham failed to take the opportunity of his solid start and was out for 33.
Now, Assam has a great opportunity to take first innings lead as they still have nine wickets in hand. Assam batsmen must learn from their previous mistakes and have to carry their bats as long as possible in the remaining two days.
It is the last Ranji Trophy match of the season for both teams. Assam is sitting at eighth position in the 10-team group with 14 points while Tripura is at ninth with six points.
