SILCHAR, Jan 3 - The annual convention of the Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) for the year 2015 and organised by the National Rural Health Mission of Cachar was recently held at the District Library auditorium here.
Over 770 ASHA workers along with 179 ASHA supervisors and 200 block officials from various blocks of the district participated in the convention.
Some selected ASHA workers from various blocks of the district were felicitated for their dedicated service in the health sector, particularly in rural pockets of the district.
S Viswanathan, Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, who attended the convention as the chief guest, lauded the efforts of the ASHA workers in improving the health condition of women in interior parts of the district.
�The Central and the State governments are putting special emphasis on improvement of health condition of women living in rural areas and the situation is gradually changing. The ASHA workers deserve special congratulations for materialising important projects in order to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates in the remote areas�, the Deputy Commissioner observed.
On the other hand, the ASHA workers narrated various problems faced by them while discharging their duties. They appealed to the Deputy Commissioner to increase their salaries and provide them better working facilities. A motivational session for encouraging the ASHA workers was also organised on the occasion.
