Arunachali miscreants kill one at Behali

BISWANATH CHARIALI, June 5 � Sensation prevails at Serelia area under Behali Police Station in Biswanath district following the recovery of a dead body of one Kalai Orang in the Behali Reserve Forest last evening.

According to information, Kalai Orang along with some of the villagers of Mikirgaon village had gone to the Behali Reserve Forest on Wednesday to collect fire woods, but they were allegedly attacked by suspected Arunachali people armed with guns and other lethal weapons. However, the other villagers managed to flee. His dead body was recovered by his relatives inside the reserved forest which had reportedly bore wound marks.

As the news spread this morning, people around the area got agitated and blocked the NH 15 at Serelia for hours. Some miscreants also allegedly burnt down a vehicle coming from Arunachal. Getting the information, Sonitpur DC, Lalit Gogoi, Biswanath SP Manabendra Dev Roy, Biswanath SDO (C) Pallav Gopal Jha, among others, reached the spot and managed to control the situation.

Later, several organisations submitted a memorandum seeking compensation and immediate arrest of the guilty. Police and CRPF personnel�s have been deployed in the area.

Staff Reporter adds: Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today asked his Arunachal Pradesh counterpart Nabam Tuki over telephone to take up immediate steps for defusing tension along the Assam-Arunachal inter-State border, following the violent incident at Behali.

According to an official press release here, Gogoi asked Tuki, during a telephonic talk this morning, to initiate necessary steps in right earnest for defusing the escalating tension and to bring the situation under control. Gogoi, while assuring the Assam Government�s help and cooperation in this respect, said both the States must work in tandem to instill confidence among the people living along the inter-State border. He asked Tuki to take immediate steps to nab the miscreants involved in the incident.

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki assured Gogoi that his Government would take all possible steps to bring the situation under control and to apprehend the culprits involved in the incident.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Gogoi appealed to the people living along the inter-State border to exercise restraint and to maintain peace and tranquility.
