GUWAHATI, Oct 16 - Member of Parliament from Arunachal Pradesh, Ninong Ering has called upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take firm action to protect the integrity and sovereignty of India in the face of reported incursions by Chinese troops in the eastern sector of the international border.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, the MP according to �reliable media reports� and inputs that he had received from the local people in the Dibang valley district of Arunachal Pradesh, troops of the People�s Army (PLA) came inside Indian territory in the Dabang valley recently. He said that in recent times, there have been several instances of incursions by the Chinese troops into Indian territory in Arunachal Pradesh. On several occasions, the Chinese troops also tried to build roads inside Indian territory, he said.
Ering said that India must ask China to respect sovereignty and territorial integrity of India for peaceful co-existence as envisaged in the historic Panchsheel agreement.
The MP urged upon the Prime Minister to stand up to the hopes and aspirations of the people of Arunachal Pradesh and take up the issue firmly with China. He also pointed out that for years, China has been issuing stapled visa to the people of Arunachal Pradesh. He said that the Prime Minister should also take up the issue with the Government of China and convey the feelings of the people of Arunachal Pradesh.
Meanwhile, the general secretary of the Arunachal Pradesh unit of the BJP, Jarpum Gamlin has also admitted that incursions by the Chinese troops is a matter of concern and said that there is need for taking effective steps to protect the borders of the country.
Talking to The Assam Tribune, Gamlin said that security deployment in the Dibang sector is lower compared to the Tawang sector and the Chinese troops sometimes take advantage of the situation to enter into the Indian territory. He said that the Government of India should review security deployments in the Dibang area and do the needful to protect the territorial integrity.
Gamlin further said that incursions by the Chinese troops take place from time to time in the Dibang area and sometimes villagers spot the PLA personnel in uniform coming into the Indian territory. Only recently, a local hunter managed to take a photo of Chinese troops venturing into the Indian territory in Dibang. He also expressed the view that increasing deployment of the Armed forces is the need of the hour in the area.
