SHILLONG, Oct 6 - The BSF has confiscated a consignment of arms meant for supply to Bangladesh from India, ahead of the general election in the neighbouring country.

The BSF today stated that on receiving information about the consignment on Friday, its troops were put on alert at Shella in East Khasi Hills district.

However, the cattle smugglers, who doubled up as the arms smugglers, managed to escape, leaving the arms consignment behind. Country-made barrel guns, cartridges, knives and other items were seized, the BSF said.

As per the information, this unknown group generally is active in extortion cases. In view of forthcoming General Election in Bangladesh, there are likely chances of smuggling of Arms from India to Bangladesh in coming days, a BSF official release stated.
