GUWAHATI, June 14 � Financial support could bring succour to Simran Newar who has been undergoing treatment at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital. The eight-year-old girl from Digboi, who is suffering from leukaemia, requires advanced medical treatment that is available at Mumbai�s Tata Memorial Hospital but which is costly.
After knowing about her condition, Life Line Foundation, a voluntary organisation, has appealed to the public to provide her with financial support. At a press meet yesterday, Indranil Barua of the foundation revealed that consultations have been held with doctors at Mumbai who have suggested that she be admitted to Tata Memorial as soon as possible.
Simran only has her mother for support, and financially they are in dire straits. Monetary aid is essential for the small child to receive the required treatment.
According to the foundation, Simran is intelligent and articulate. She wants to study and do well in life. Aid from generous donors will help her realize her dreams.

Speaking to the media, the general secretary of Life Line Foundation, Lakhyadhar Bharali, said that like Simran there were many needy patients requiring financial support for cancer treatment and the foundation was willing to extend it to those who are economically weak.
�We have a database of people who could be approached for financial aid, which can help the family of patients suffering from cancer,� he said and added that inexpensive accommodation in Mumbai can also be arranged for attendants of patients. He informed that for the attendants of cancer patients receiving treatment in Mumbai, accommodation can be arranged for Rs 20 to Rs 30 per day.
The Life Line Foundation was started in Mumbai in 2003, and has so far helped a large number of people in securing treatment for cancer in Mumbai and in Assam. The foundation has also been campaigning to spread awareness about the disease which has a high incidence in Northeast India.
