ANSS, Udalguri dist unit observes 47th foundation day

UDALGURI, Jan 6 - The Udalguri district committee of Asom Nepali Sahitya Sabha (ANSS), one of the premier literary organisations of the state, observed its 47th foundation day here at Bandarguri High School premises with a day-long programme on January 4 last.

The programme held under the aegis of Bandarguri unit of the literary organisation got under way with flag hoisting by Gayatri Bhattarai, president while Ram Upadhyaya, district secretary initiated the floral tributes to the martyrs.

Later a literary symposium was held with Mohan Rawat, secretary of Udalguri unit of the organisation in the chair where Sahitya Akademi awardees Tarapati Upadhyaya and Pushpadhar Sarmah and Sanskrit scholar Bidyapati Dahal, among others, participated.

Meanwhile, the Bandarguri unit of the literary organisation was formed with Dipendra Sapkota and Chandan Bhattarai as president and secretary respectively on the occasion.

Citizens� meet: A special citizens� meet was held here at Gorkha Bhawan in the heart of Udalguri town with Gayatri Bhattarai, president of the Udalguri district committee of the Asom Nepali Sahitya Sabha (ANSS) in the chair on January 6 last.

The meeting was jointly convened by the Udalguri district committees of ANSS, Assam Gorkha Sammelan and All Assam Gorkha Students� Union (AAGSU). The meeting made a threadbare discussion on the recent High Court order to evict illegal encroachments in tribal belts and blocks of the State and came to a conclusion that the Gorkhas, who are a protected community of the State since 1947, have no problem in this regard. The meet appealed to all concerned to see that they shouldn�t be politically victimised.

The meet was addressed by Tarapati Upadhyaya, eminent academician, Lakhsmi Sedain, general secretary of the AGS, Ramesh Dahal, president of Udalguri district committee of Asom Gorkha Sammelan, Somraj Sonar, president of Udalguri district committee of AAGSU, among others.
