Another incident of child marriage comes to light

GUWAHATI, Feb 25 - A minor girl was rescued by Childline after an alleged incident of child marriage in the Forest Gate area of Noonmati last night.

The 16 year-old girl, hailing from the Nepali community, is a student of Class X.

She is reportedly an orphan and was staying at her uncle�s residence.

The boy, who also is a minor of 17 years, was untraced yesterday. He is from the Assamese community.

After Childline pursued the case, the family members produced the boy at the Noonmati Police Station today, after which he was referred to Childline for further action.

Childline�s Guwahati coordinator Nirmal Deka said the girl has been kept at a shelter home following directions of the district Child Welfare Committee (CWC). The boy will also be kept at a shelter home.

The District Child Protection Officer has called the guardians of both the minors on Monday. The Child Welfare Committee will hear the case on Tuesday.
