GUWAHATI, July 11 - The Asom Rajyik Anganwadi Karmi aru Sahayika Sanstha has demanded of the Centre as well as the State Government to take measures for improving the condition of the Anganwadi workers in Assam.
In a memorandum to the Union Minister of Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi and the Department of Social Welfare, Government of Assam, the association demanded a hike in the budget under the Integrated Child Development Scheme.
The association, while explaining the pitiable condition of the Anganwadi workers and assistants, stated that paying a meagre amount of Rs 3,000 and Rs 1,500, for both the workers and assistants respectively, is grossly insufficient in comparison to the hard work done by the workers.
�Of late, the government is putting pressure on us to take retirement, but there is no retirement benefit for us,� the memorandum stated.
The association also demanded regularization of their jobs, pay hike, pension benefits and infrastructure development of Anganwadi centres.
